Printing News

Printing News – The UK printing industry is the fifth largest producer of printed materials in the world and a significant economic contributor and employer in the UK, with a market size of £14 billion in 2023 and employing around 140,000 people in some 10,500 companies.

Here we look at the latest print industry news, views and in-depth reporting on the UK’s printing and packaging sectors including who the industry is focusing on innovation and sustainability.

The market size of the UK printing industry has declined 4.1% per year on average between 2018 and 2023 as many European corporates started to shift production to mainland Europe, fearful of the post Brexit economic climate in the UK.

The future outlook for the global printing industry doesnt fair much better as the market is categorised as ‘mature’ and susceptible to continued shocks, not least the continued expanse of digital formats replacing print. Where printing periodicals and magazines were replaced by websites and app, books were displaced by e-readers such as the Kindle.

The British Printing Industries Federation in their latest exploration of UK print industry found that the global market for print and printed packaging will fall by 15% between 2015 and 2030.
