Wirral based SeaKing Group Announces Acquisition by Modutec

Wirral based SeaKing Group which provides services to its customers in the marine, defence, renewables, and offshore sectors has announced that the business has been acquired by Modutec.

SeaKing Group, which has some 105 employees and is based in Birkenhead, Wirral specialises in hazardous area electrical works has secured the inward investment from Modutec, creating “an exciting opportunity for growth and collaboration”.

Modutec is renowned for providing technical solutions that enhance the well-being and safety of offshore workers in hazardous environments.  Their offerings include maritime assets for defence, transportation, and offshore energy developments.

Grown from just four employees 20 years ago to employing more than 100 engineers worldwide, SeaKing has had a tremendous journey to date and the business enhances Modutec’s comprehensive portfolio, further solidifying its position as a leading provider in the industry.

“Marine assets are becoming more intelligent to enhance efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.  This is brokering the need for a more integrated technical solution and a new contracting model for owners of high value assets.

Brian Knowles, Modutec managing director, said: “The combined skill set of SeaKing, CO-AT and Modutec opens a unique proposition to the market.  Our 515 staff will support customers with a deep technical solution with the capacity to scale across multiple geographies.”

SeaKing managing director Martin Sealeaf added: “This acquisition marks a significant milestone for The SeaKing Group, propelling us further ahead as we strive to expand and diversify our capabilities within the industry where we are already recognised as leaders.

“Our partnership with Modutec represents an exciting opportunity for growth and collaboration, aligning with our vision for the future. By combining our strengths and resources, we can deliver greater value to our clients, offering a comprehensive suite of services and solutions that meet their evolving needs.”

From concept to design to manufacture and installation, SeaKing offers a complete turn-key package to meet industry requirements in offshore wind market support, marine installations, vessel survey and upgrades to system engineering, complete mechanical and electrical packages, and software development.

With SeaKing Groups Wirral location being so close to the famous shipbuilder Cammell Lairds it has frequently worked with the shipbuilder on commercial and military ships with one notable and memorable ship being RRS Sir David Attenborough the research vessel owned by the Natural Environment Research Council and operated by the British Antarctic Survey. SeaKing Group did a great deal of support installation on the ship.

You might be thinking that the RRS Sir David Attenborough ship sounds familiar?

In March 2016, NERC (Natural Environment Research Council) opened a public naming poll for the ship and BBC Radio Jersey presenter James Hand jokingly suggested RRS “Boaty McBoatface”.

Whilst this name became the most popular very quickly and was the runaway winner when the poll closed, with 124,109 votes the NERC stated that they would have the final say. Although RRS Sir David Attenborough was chosen to better respect the serious work the ship would be doing the name Boaty McBoatface was used for one of RRS Sir David Attenborough’s remotely controlled submersibles.
